Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the past five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout set to begin at the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to escape with just a light touch of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the pit straight.
The veteran finished practice in P19, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
